Hello, I'm Jon Wikne. I was born on February 19, 1955, have a Master of
Science degree (cand. real.) in electronics,
and I work as Senior Engineer (senioringeniør) at the
Oslo Cyclotron lab
and the ALICE project at CERN.
My primary scientific interests are electronics, both construction and maintenance, and computers. I started my career with electronics already at the age of about 5, when I got my first, simple "little electrician" kit. Becoming a scientist / engineer must have been inherent in my genes, both my parents were more into humanities.
At the Cyclotron lab, I am in charge of designing customized, electronic equipment for the nuclear physics experiments. I have also done some work (design and other) for the Delphi and ALICE experiments at CERN. My tasks include a fair share of repair and maintenance, both on gadgets I made myself and (mostly!) what others made. Finally, I am the computer sysadmin at the lab. Yes, I do keep long working hours!
Projects I had my paws on are the SIRI readout system and the Fastbus/SCI interface.
Here is (a somewhat outdated version of) my publication list, for those interested.
The most important person in my life is my girlfriend
Trine. She's my soul mate, and
also a fellow scientist at the same group, which is a good thing,
since otherwise our working habits would not permit us to see much
of each other. We share most interests in life apart from science
too, including plants,
animals and
outdoor life in general.
We live in a big, old house with a garden, about 2 km from the University of Oslo campus.
Most homepages include a list of frequently
visited links on the Web, and mine is no exception.
You also have the chance to look at my picture gallery. It contains all kinds of stuff, from things copied from newsgroups and other sources, to pictures shot (or scanned) by myself or my girl. I made an attempt to sort things by category, although that may be ambiguous in some cases. The largest sections are animals (especially cats!) and nature.
Anything else? Probably not. I used to have a link to my guestbook
here, but had to shut it down since 98% of the entries there the
last years have been spam, crap and abuse. You can still look at
previous entries, though.
